Pinterest is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Growth Science team in Toronto. The role sits within a machine learning organisation that builds the personalised recommendation experiences behind a platform serving more than 600 million users, and it involves working with unusually large-scale behavioural and saved-content data. The engineer will apply current deep learning and recommendation techniques to surfaces such as Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping and Search, running rapid experiments and shipping product changes in a fast-moving environment. Pinterest frames AI as a collaborator in how work gets done, so comfort with AI-assisted engineering practice is part of the culture. The position is not eligible for relocation assistance, and the working model follows the company's flexible PinFlex arrangement with remote tagging on the posting.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build deep learning and machine learning models that personalise Pinterest for its global user base
- Collaborate with partner teams across the company to experiment on and improve models for multiple product surfaces, including Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping and Search
- Apply data-driven approaches and leverage platform-specific signals to improve candidate retrieval quality
- Move quickly from experimentation to product launch in a high-impact setting
- Stay current with research and industry practice in recommendation systems
Key requirements
- Four or more years of industry experience applying machine learning methods such as user modelling, personalisation, recommender systems, search, ranking, NLP, reinforcement learning or graph representation learning
- Hands-on end-to-end experience building data processing pipelines, large-scale ML systems and big data tooling such as Hadoop or Spark
- A degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics or a related field
- Nice to have: publications at top ML conferences, experience with AI coding assistants and LLM-powered productivity tooling, expertise in scalable real-time stream processing systems, and an MS or PhD in a relevant discipline
