Lyft is hiring a Machine Learning Software Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in Toronto. The role sits within a team building a next-generation ML platform for transportation, working with large-scale data across areas such as marketplace, mapping, fraud, and growth. The intern will help turn ML models into production pipelines and collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and ML engineers to frame and solve business problems. This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days per week in the Toronto office, including Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The expected base pay range is CAD $46 to $53 per hour, and interns receive benefits such as mental health support, paid time off, sick time, commuter subsidies, and Lyft ride credits.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, development, training, and testing of machine learning models
- Write production-quality code that converts ML models into working pipelines
- Work with product managers, data scientists, and other ML engineers to define ML problems in a business context
- Analyze experimental and observational data, then communicate findings to support decisions
- Take part in code and specification reviews to maintain quality and share knowledge
Key requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in computer science or a related technical field at a Canadian university
- Graduation date between December 2027 and summer 2028
- Available for a Summer 2027 internship in Toronto
- Master's candidates who worked between bachelor's and master's programs should have under two years of relevant full-time experience
- Familiarity with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, or MXNet
- Strong programming skills in Python or another object-oriented language
- Ability to turn ML research papers into working code
- Practical understanding of efficient end-to-end ML workflows
- Comfort designing software systems and producing high-quality code
- Curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and clear communication
