StackAdapt is hiring a Senior/Staff Applied ML Scientist in Toronto!
StackAdapt, a programmatic advertising platform that runs hundreds of billions of automated optimizations per second, is hiring a Senior or Staff Applied ML Scientist to expand its data science group. The team operates at serious scale — millions of requests per second and billions of decisions — connecting thousands of publishers and advertisers. This is a remote-first role open to candidates anywhere in Canada or the US, with the option of WeWork access and hubs in Toronto and London. The emphasis is on applied work: shipping models that measurably improve campaign performance rather than publishing research in isolation.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and continuously improve machine learning algorithms that raise advertising effectiveness and return on investment, including inventing new approaches and upgrading existing ones.
- Own models through the full production lifecycle — writing efficient, scalable code and partnering with Machine Learning Engineers to deploy and integrate algorithms into live, high-throughput systems.
- Prototype and rigorously test new algorithms and data pipelines against historical data, then lead iterative refinement based on what the results show.
- Take loosely defined problems and translate them into concrete, sequenced plans of action.
Key requirements
- At least 3 years of industry experience in machine learning or a closely related applied field.
- A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research or a similar discipline; combined or dual degrees are a plus.
- Strong grounding in statistics, optimization and machine learning theory and practice.
- Solid software fundamentals — comfortable coding, with good command of data structures and algorithms.
- Comfort with ambiguity, plus a collaborative, friendly working style.
- Bonus: experience in adtech, programmatic bidding, or other real-time, large-scale decision systems.
