Faire is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager Analytics Platform in Toronto!

Faire, a technology wholesale marketplace connecting independent retailers and brands, is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Analytics Platform team in Toronto. The group owns the data foundation that product engineering, data science, product management, strategy, analytics, and finance teams depend on daily: data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, medallion datasets, BI tooling and integrations, and emerging agentic analytics capabilities. The mandate is to shorten the path from raw data to trustworthy insight while protecting freshness, quality, and cost. This is a hybrid, hands-on leadership role rather than pure people management — the successful candidate sets technical direction, stays close to architecture and code, and leads a team of roughly eight engineers through scoping, prioritisation, and production incident triage. Faire frames the platform as the operating system for local retail, so reliability and internal adoption matter as much as raw capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of about eight engineers, supporting their career growth and impact.
  • Define the technical vision and roadmap for the analytics platform, spanning warehousing, pipelines, foundational datasets, and BI tooling.
  • Lead scoping, planning, and prioritisation, weighing near-term requests against longer-term platform investment.
  • Maintain a high bar for data integrity, security, privacy, governance, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Own storage and compute cost efficiency, including monitoring, alerting, and workload cost tracking.
  • Build AI/LLM-powered tooling and automation that speed up and improve the accuracy of analytics work.
  • Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Product Engineering to translate pain points into platform priorities.
  • Triage production defects alongside planned work and drive infrastructure or tooling fixes that prevent recurrence.
  • Review architecture, designs, and code closely enough to lead the team credibly.
  • Manage select infrastructure vendor relationships and own team structure, process, and hiring decisions.

Key requirements

  • 8+ years in engineering roles, including at least 3+ years in engineering leadership.
  • Experience building and operating data platforms: warehousing, ETL pipelines, orchestration, and analytics engineering workflows.
  • Strong, current technical skills in Python and SQL, with willingness to write software during onboarding.
  • Understanding of performance, capacity, and cost trade-offs in data processing systems.
  • Track record diagnosing and resolving data system production issues at scale.
  • Internal customer empathy and evidence of building platforms or tooling with high adoption.
  • Experience growing engineers and raising team contribution levels.
  • Comfort bringing structure to ambiguous cross-functional problems, with strong communication across technical and non-technical partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Nice to have: Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses, leading through other managers, postgraduate study in computer science, data science, analytics, or mathematics.
  • Seniority: Senior Engineering Manager
  • Work mode: Hybrid — 3 days per week in the Toronto office (Tuesdays, Thursdays, plus one flex day); remote up to 4 weeks per year
  • Salary: $190,500 – $262,000 per year (Canada), plus equity and benefits
  • Key skills: Python, SQL, Data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, Orchestration, BI tooling, Data governance, Cost optimisation, AI/LLM tooling, Snowflake, AWS, Airflow, dbt, Databricks, Spark
