Pinterest is hiring a ML Intern 2027 Toronto in Toronto!

Pinterest is hiring a Machine Learning Intern for 2027 in its Toronto office. The placement is a full-time, hybrid internship in which the intern takes ownership of a scoped ML project — from framing the problem through experimentation, implementation, and presenting results — while working alongside engineers, product managers, and data teams. The work feeds directly into Pinterest's discovery, ads, and search experiences, and the intern gains exposure to how large-scale machine-learning systems are built and maintained. Compensation is listed at CA$8,000–CA$8,600 per month, and relocation assistance may be available. Candidates must be based in Canada and able to commute to Toronto, coming into the office two to three weekdays each week.

Key responsibilities

  • Own an assigned machine-learning project end to end, including problem definition, experimentation, implementation, and communicating results
  • Contribute to applied ML and AI research that shapes product experiences
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data to build data-driven models
  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and tested code
  • Apply techniques such as natural language processing and graph-based methods to modeling and ranking problems in discovery, ads, and search
  • Break down scoped technical problems, propose approaches, and implement solutions with team guidance
  • Report progress and findings to teammates, hitting assigned project milestones and asking for help when needed
  • Use AI tools to speed up analysis and iteration while verifying correctness and quality

Key requirements

  • Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in computer science, machine learning, NLP, statistics, information sciences, or a related field
  • Background in machine learning areas such as ranking, computer vision, NLP, content recommendations, embeddings, or information retrieval
  • Experience with big-data tooling (for example Hadoop or Spark) and scalable real-time stream-processing systems
  • Proficiency in a systems language (Java, C++, or Python) or an ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MLflow)
  • Demonstrated research experience and strength at analytical problem-solving
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to find solutions to open-ended problems
  • Must be based in Canada and within commuting distance of Toronto
  • Prior exposure to ML or AI through research, coursework, projects, or internships
  • Seniority: Intern
  • Work mode: Hybrid — Toronto office, 2-3 weekdays per week on-site
  • Salary: CA$8,000–CA$8,600 per month
  • Key skills: Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Ranking, Information Retrieval, Embeddings, Computer Vision, Hadoop, Spark, Python, Java, C++, TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLflow, Research
