Asana is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for its Vancouver office to shape how the company's growth strategy evolves as more users discover and adopt productivity software through conversational AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Sitting within Asana's AI organization, the role pairs rigorous analytics with product influence, helping determine how agentic work management features are built and measured. The position is hybrid and office-centric, with standard in-office days of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday plus an optional work-from-home Wednesday. Compensation is listed as a base salary of CAD 176,000 to 200,000, with equity and benefits potentially on top of that.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with product managers, user researchers and engineers to characterize customer segments and pinpoint levers that increase engagement for agentic work management users
- Serve as the data lead for selected AI features, working alongside product and engineering teams
- Translate analysis into compelling data stories that surface product opportunities and inform the roadmap
- Design experiments that track product progress and take ownership of key performance metrics
- Share research and best practices with other data scientists across the organization
- Operate in a fast-moving, quality-focused team while exploring AI optimization and how LLMs can strengthen Asana's value proposition
Key requirements
- Four to six years in data science, with most of that spent in growth-oriented roles at B2B SaaS companies
- A 0-to-1 mindset: comfortable inventing new approaches in ambiguous settings rather than executing existing playbooks
- Strong cross-functional leadership, crisp writing and the ability to influence product, engineering, design, partnerships, sales and executives
- Exposure to AI/ML products, LLM APIs or platform integrations; conversational AI experience strongly preferred
- Deep grounding in experimentation, A/B testing and pipeline management
- Business acumen to balance user experience against revenue goals and turn technology trends into product strategy
- Genuine curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies
- Expert-level relational data modeling and SQL, plus fluency in R, Python or Scala
- Familiarity with experimental design, regression and causal inference
