Lyft is hiring a Data Science Metrics in Toronto!
Lyft's Metrics team, part of the Central Market Management organization, is hiring a Data Scientist in Toronto to own the business metrics leadership uses to run the marketplace. This is a data-ownership role rather than a modeling-first one: the successful candidate will take end-to-end responsibility for one or more domain datasets, from raw source inputs through the pipelines that process them to the standardized metrics that executives and partner teams depend on. Because these numbers inform high-stakes marketplace decisions, accuracy, consistent definitions, and proactive quality checks matter as much as analytical skill. The position carries substantial executive visibility and sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and business partnership. The role reports to a Data Science Manager and is hybrid, with at least three days per week in the Toronto office including Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Lyft offers extended health and dental coverage, mental health and family-building benefits, an RRSP match, flexible paid time off for salaried staff, and 18 weeks of paid parental leave.

- Build and maintain the processing logic and pipelines that convert raw inputs into trusted, analysis-ready data
- Own the business metrics derived from that data, developing the source-level understanding needed to define each metric correctly
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability through quality checks that surface issues before consumers encounter them
- Deliver data and metrics to stakeholders in usable form and support their integration into decisions

- Communicate findings clearly and concisely to stakeholders, including senior audiences
Key requirements
- Degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, applied math, operations research, or engineering, or equivalent work experience; advanced degrees preferred
- 3+ years of industry experience in a data science or analytics role
- Proficiency in SQL, including writing structured, efficient queries against large datasets
- Programming experience with data science and visualization libraries in Python or R
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional partners
- Intellectual curiosity, close attention to detail, and a record of analytical problem-solving
- Seniority: Mid-level (3+ years experience)
- Work mode: Hybrid — at least 3 days per week in the Toronto office (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays)
- Salary: CAD $108,000 - CAD $135,000 base per year, excluding equity, bonus, and benefits
- Key skills: SQL, Python, R, Data visualization, Data pipelines, Metrics definition, Data quality, Stakeholder communication
