Geotab is hiring a Computer Vision Engineering in Toronto!
Geotab, a global IoT and connected-transportation company headquartered in Oakville with a Toronto presence, is hiring a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to work on its camera systems. The position centres on edge AI: building high-precision deep learning models that run in real time on hardware-constrained devices inside commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will combine strong applied machine-learning skills with an awareness of embedded hardware limits, taking ownership of models from design through field deployment while also improving the surrounding code, training and release infrastructure. Geotab describes itself as fast-moving and inclusive, and the role is being recruited under a flexible hybrid model that allows office attendance as often as the employee likes.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and validate deep learning architectures such as CNNs and transformers for on-device object detection, segmentation, tracking, scene understanding and sensor fusion
- Refine codebase structure, training frameworks and deployment pipelines for testability, robustness and maintainability
- Author and critically review technical design documentation for complex camera systems and features
- Optimize models for accuracy and very low latency using quantization, pruning and knowledge distillation for hardware accelerators
- Build monitoring tooling and CI/CD pipelines so edge models stay reliable and update smoothly in the field
- Diagnose training failures, inference bottlenecks and live performance issues, leading broad investigations
- Take pragmatic ownership of systemic problems and of unglamorous but team-enabling technical work
- Collaborate with camera software engineers, platform developers, product managers and other engineering teams on major releases
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, and participate in the engineering interview process
Key requirements
- Five to eight years of relevant industry experience across varied engineering problems and pressures
- Five or more years of hands-on applied machine learning, including large-scale datasets and deployment to resource-constrained environments
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software or electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or a related quantitative field, or equivalent education and experience
- Advanced Python and C++, with PyTorch, TensorFlow or OpenCV and edge runtimes such as ONNX Runtime, OpenVINO or CoreML
- Working knowledge of embedded accelerators such as Ambarella CVFlow, Qualcomm SNPE or NVIDIA Jetson and how they constrain software performance
- Recognized depth in computer vision and multi-modal AI, including code review leadership and guidance on difficult algorithmic problems
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the judgment to balance technical debt against delivery and to coach less senior colleagues
- Seniority: Senior
- Work mode: Hybrid (flexible hybrid model)
- Salary: $104,400 - $135,700 CAD
- Key skills: Computer vision, Deep learning, Python, C++, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, ONNX Runtime, OpenVINO, CoreML, Model quantization and pruning, Knowledge distillation, Edge AI, CI/CD, Embedded accelerators
