Mistplay is hiring a Staff Data Analyst // Analyste de données principal in Montreal!
Mistplay, a loyalty rewards app for mobile gamers, is hiring a Staff Data Analyst (P5) to serve as the technical anchor of its analytics team, based in Montreal under a hybrid model with two days per week in office. This is a senior individual-contributor position where influence comes less from the volume of personal analyses than from how much the whole team improves: setting standards for methods, definitions, and QA, reviewing colleagues' work, and mentoring analysts. The role centres on elevating dashboarding and automated monitoring, leading deep behavioral analysis to create new user segments the business can experiment on and build product experiences around, and tying insight to revenue, cost, retention, and growth targets. The analyst also partners with the experimentation owner to strengthen testing practices and introduce new methods and decision models. Success is visible in sharper team-wide analysis quality, segments actively used in product and commercial decisions, and experimentation standards that are stronger because of this person's involvement. Candidates should be passionate about craft, generous with knowledge-sharing, and comfortable translating complex behavioral data into decision-grade narratives for senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Establish shared standards for analytical methods, metric definitions, and quality assurance, and act as the go-to reviewer for other analysts' work
- Design reusable, well-built dashboards and automated alerting so metric shifts and data-quality problems surface early
- Lead deep user and behavioral analyses and construct net-new user segments for tracking, experimentation, and product personalization
- Connect analytical findings to financial and business outcomes such as revenue, cost, retention, and growth
- Partner with the experimentation owner to raise testing standards and propose new methods and decision models
- Standardize analytics practice across the team through reusable code, shared workflows, and consistent rigor
- Mentor analysts and keep the team current on emerging industry techniques
- Translate complex technical work into clear, decision-grade narratives for senior stakeholders
Key requirements
- Advanced SQL for production-grade analytics and dashboard data layers
- Python for statistical analysis, automation, and reusable libraries
- Demonstrated history of raising analytical quality and visualization/monitoring standards across a team, beyond personal deliverables
- Strong user and behavioral analysis skills, including segment construction, plus the ability to link analytics to financial goals
- Solid experimentation fundamentals: frequentist and Bayesian approaches, statistical power, and guardrail metrics
- Ability to communicate complex work as clear, decision-oriented narratives for senior leadership
- Experience mentoring and teaching others
- Nice to have: machine learning such as propensity/uplift modeling, forecasting, and causal methods, along with analytics-grade data modeling
- Seniority: Staff / senior individual contributor (P5)
- Work mode: Hybrid — 2 days per week in office (Montreal or Toronto)
- Key skills: SQL, Python, Data Visualization, Dashboarding, Automated Monitoring, User Segmentation, Behavioral Analysis, Experimentation (frequentist and Bayesian), Statistical Power, Guardrail Metrics, Data Storytelling, Mentorship, Machine Learning, Forecasting, Causal Methods
