Faire is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager Analytics Platform in Kitchener!
Faire, a wholesale marketplace platform that connects independent retailers with brands, is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Analytics Platform team in Kitchener. The team owns the data foundation behind company-wide decision-making: data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, foundational and medallion datasets, BI tooling and integrations, and emerging agentic analytics tooling. The mandate is to shorten the path from raw data to insight for product engineering, data science, product management, strategy, analytics and finance, while keeping that data fresh, trustworthy and affordable to process. This is a hands-on leadership role rather than pure people management: the manager sets technical direction and platform strategy, stays close to architecture and code, and guides a team whose systems other teams depend on daily. Faire frames the work around hard problems in warehousing, pipeline reliability, data quality, and the performance-versus-cost trade-offs of large-scale processing, plus an interest in how AI agents are reshaping analytics. The team is expected to combine craft and ownership with strong internal customer empathy, so analysts and scientists find the platform easy and dependable. The role is hybrid, based in Kitchener, with three office days a week.
Key responsibilities
- Directly manage, mentor and grow a team of about eight engineers, helping them increase their impact and advance their careers
- Set the technical vision and roadmap for the analytics platform, covering warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, foundational datasets and BI tooling and integrations
- Lead scoping, planning and prioritization, weighing urgent near-term requests against longer-term platform investment
- Hold a high bar for data integrity, security, privacy, governance, reliability and operational excellence
- Own storage and compute cost efficiency, including monitoring, alerting and cost tracking for workloads
- Build AI and LLM-powered tooling and automation that make analytics work faster and more accurate
- Partner with data science, analytics, finance and product engineering to translate pain points into clear platform priorities
- Triage and assign production issues alongside planned work, and identify infrastructure or tooling changes that prevent recurrence
- Stay close to architecture, designs and code in order to lead the team effectively
- Manage relationships with selected infrastructure vendors
- Own process and team structure decisions, and attract, hire and retain engineering talent
Key requirements
- 8+ years in engineering roles, including at least 3+ years in engineering leadership
- Experience building and operating data platforms such as warehousing, ETL pipelines, orchestration and analytics engineering workflows
- Strong, current technical skills in Python and SQL, with willingness to write software for a couple of months during onboarding
- Understanding of performance, capacity and cost trade-offs in data processing systems
- Experience diagnosing, mitigating and resolving data system production issues at scale
- Strong internal customer empathy and a record of building platforms or tooling with high adoption
- Track record of helping engineers grow and lifting teams to higher contribution
- Comfort bringing clarity and structure to ambiguous, cross-functional problems
- Strong communication with both technical and non-technical partners
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Bonus: experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses, having led through other managers, or a postgraduate degree in computer science, data science, analytics or mathematics
