Pinterest is hiring a remote Software Engineer II!

Pinterest is hiring a Software Engineer II on its Data Analytics and Engineering team to strengthen how data science and product development access and trust data. The position is remote, though the successful candidate should expect to come into an office for in-person collaboration once or twice a month, and it can be based anywhere in the country (the posting notes the pay range applies to US-based applicants and that relocation support is not offered). Day to day, this person sits at the intersection of analytics engineering and platform work: designing the instrumentation and experimentation conventions product teams follow, building pipelines and self-service tooling that make trustworthy datasets and metric definitions easy to find, and documenting everything so others can work independently. The role also explicitly involves using AI to speed up analysis, prototyping and iteration, while validating outputs and staying accountable for the final result. The team works closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering and Business Intelligence partners, so clear communication and the ability to turn loosely defined requests into concrete technical goals matter as much as the technical stack.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and document instrumentation and experimentation standards, then help product engineering teams adopt them on priority work
  • Build and refine scalable analysis pipelines and tooling that generate dependable insights across large datasets
  • Create processes and tools that let data scientists and engineers self-serve trusted datasets, metrics and definitions
  • Spot gaps in data quality and discoverability, make the case for fixes, and support well-governed data practices
  • Maintain thorough documentation covering tools, datasets, metrics and operating procedures
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering and BI partners to share insights and shape product improvements
  • Apply AI tools to accelerate analysis and prototyping while verifying correctness, quality and responsible use

Key requirements

  • At least 2 years delivering analytics engineering or data solutions in a fast-paced, data-driven setting
  • Hands-on SQL plus Python, R or a similar language, working with large, high-dimensional data including nested structures, window functions, query optimization and partitioning
  • Experience building and running data workflows: orchestration, ETL/ELT pipelines and DAG dependencies across complex datasets
  • Ability to translate open-ended partner requests into clear, high-impact technical objectives and to work across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering and BI
  • Demonstrated use of AI to improve speed and quality in engineering workflows
  • Strong practice of critically checking AI-assisted work through testing, data validation, source verification or peer review
  • High integrity and ownership, including protecting sensitive data and remaining accountable for final deliverables
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Seniority: Mid-level (II)
  • Work mode: Remote, with 1-2 in-office collaboration days per month
  • Salary: $123,696 - $254,667 USD (US-based applicants only)
  • Key skills: SQL, Python, R, ETL/ELT, Workflow orchestration, DAGs, Data modeling, Data quality, Experimentation, Documentation, AI-assisted development, Cross-functional collaboration
