Elastic is hiring a remote Senior Site Reliability Engineer Observability Analytics!

Elastic is hiring a senior site reliability engineer to join the observability side of its Platform Observability & Analytics group — the team responsible for the infrastructure that reports on Elastic's own platform health. The group runs more than 200 hosted deployments across every supported cloud region, collecting logs, metrics and traces for all of Elastic Cloud, and also handles SLA/SLO monitoring for ESS and Serverless. In practice, when Cloud engineers want to know how production is behaving, they are looking at systems this team operates. The position is remote and senior-level, with an emphasis on independent end-to-end project delivery, infrastructure-as-code ownership, and a steady 24/7 on-call rotation. Beyond hands-on engineering, the role carries a mentorship and review component: acting as a dependable second reviewer on production changes to critical infrastructure, guiding less experienced colleagues, and steadily reducing operational toil by improving runbooks, documentation and processes. Compensation is a base salary with no variable component, plus stock eligibility and a company-matched RRSP.

Key responsibilities

  • Own delivery of moderate-to-high complexity roadmap projects from start to finish with limited day-to-day direction
  • Operate and harden shared Elastic Cloud infrastructure (ECH, ECE, ECK) through infrastructure as code, authoring and reviewing Terraform, Python and Go
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation: triage incidents, drive them to resolution, and produce clear RCAs and postmortems that prevent repeat pages
  • Review teammates' code and designs, serving as a trusted second set of eyes on production changes to critical infrastructure
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and proactively surface risks, ideas and improvements in team discussions
  • Improve runbooks, documentation and operational processes to reduce on-call burden over time

Key requirements

  • 5+ years in site reliability, platform engineering or infrastructure engineering
  • Proficiency with Terraform, including owning large multi-workspace configurations in a team environment
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals in Python; Go experience is a plus
  • Deep Linux systems knowledge and production experience running containerized workloads
  • Prior experience in a 24/7 on-call rotation, resolving incidents under pressure and writing RCAs that hold up to review
  • Track record of delivering moderate-to-high complexity projects end-to-end with minimal oversight and acting as a valued code and design reviewer
  • Security-conscious mindset when building infrastructure — specialist security knowledge not required
  • History of mentoring less experienced engineers and speaking up with ideas and concerns
  • Clear written and verbal communication, able to document work and explain it to engineers and non-engineers alike
  • Comfort collaborating across time zones in real-time and asynchronous settings
  • Nice to have: production experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Beats, Kibana), GitOps tooling such as ArgoCD or Helm, policy-as-code like Kyverno, Vault, Teleport, fleet-scale configuration management (Puppet, Ansible), or regulated environments such as FedRAMP or GovCloud
  • Seniority: Senior
  • Work mode: Remote
  • Salary: $138,300 – $185,900 CAD
  • Key skills: Terraform, Python, Go, Linux, Kubernetes, containers, Elasticsearch, Kibana, ArgoCD, Helm, Vault, Puppet, Ansible, incident response, on-call
