Mercury is hiring a remote Senior Data Scientist Growth!
Mercury is hiring a senior data scientist to join its Growth team in a fully remote role. This is a strategic, product-facing position: you will partner with growth product, design, engineering and marketing leaders to shape how Mercury acquires, activates and retains customers across its business and personal banking offerings. Rather than only measuring outcomes, you will frame the reasoning behind what gets built, size opportunities, and translate the growth funnel into clear, prioritized recommendations. The role is full-stack and end to end, spanning problem framing through analysis and communication, with room to build deep expertise where data science, product and growth intersect. You will also help define how Growth measures success and where it invests, aligned with Mercury's wider product and company goals. Expect a high level of ownership, frequent executive exposure, and work that directly influences revenue and the experience of entrepreneurs.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with growth product, design, engineering and marketing leaders to surface the highest-impact business questions and influence what gets built and why
- Own the growth funnel end to end — first visit, signup, approval, activation and retention — building metrics, driver trees and narratives that show where performance is strong or lagging
- Size opportunities and support roadmap prioritization and annual planning, offering clear recommendations even when data is incomplete
- Design, analyze and communicate experiments, including A/B tests and quasi-experimental methods, to determine whether changes worked and what to do next
- Match analytical rigor to the decision at hand: fast and directional when appropriate, thorough when stakes are high
- Collaborate with other data scientists, data engineers and analytics engineers to produce trusted, self-serve growth metrics
- Present findings and recommendations to audiences at every level, including executives, with a clear point of view
Key requirements
- 6+ years in data science, product analytics or growth analytics, including 3+ years working closely with product growth teams
- Strong product sense and a demonstrated record of shaping product direction, not just measuring it
- Deep experience with experiment design and analysis, plus funnel, cohort and retention analysis
- Fluency in SQL and a statistical programming language such as Python or R
- Experience with product analytics and BI tools such as Amplitude, Hex, Omni or similar; familiarity with Snowflake and dbt is a plus
- Comfort with ambiguity and with respectfully disagreeing with senior stakeholders, backed by evidence
- Clear, concise communication that leads with the point and adapts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Nice to have: experience in consumer or SMB fintech, or with mobile product analytics
- Seniority: Senior
- Work mode: Remote
- Salary: US employees (any location): $200,700–$250,900 USD; Canadian employees (any location): $189,700–$237,100 CAD
- Key skills: SQL, Python, R, experiment design, A/B testing, quasi-experimental methods, funnel analysis, cohort analysis, retention analysis, product analytics, Amplitude, Hex, Omni, Snowflake, dbt
