Pinterest is hiring a remote Manager II!

Pinterest is hiring a Manager II to lead its Content Foundation machine-learning group, which focuses on extracting semantic meaning from platform content and turning it into reusable signals that improve relevance and personalization. This people-management role combines technical vision-setting with team leadership: the manager guides engineers and applied scientists, shapes long-term direction for semantic signal generation and model-powered infrastructure, and works closely with product, data science, and downstream engineering partners. The work supports major Pinterest surfaces including Discovery, Search, Growth, and Ads. The position is remote within the United States, with occasional in-person collaboration required each quarter.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers and applied scientists working on content-understanding signals, infrastructure, and systems.
  • Set a long-term technical vision for semantic signal generation, reusable foundational layers, and scalable model-powered infrastructure.
  • Partner with product, data science, and partner engineering teams to connect foundational signals to measurable downstream impact.
  • Own roadmap planning, technical decisions, risk management, execution, and stakeholder communication.
  • Guide the team through challenges involving LLM and VLM adoption, signal quality and coverage, low-cost reusable layers, inference throughput and freshness, and large-scale monitoring and evaluation.

Key requirements

  • 7 or more years of industry experience, including at least 2 years in people management.
  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or comparable practical experience.
  • Publication record at top machine-learning or data-mining conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, KDD, or SIGIR.
  • Hands-on background with large-scale distributed training and inference for LLM and VLM models.
  • Experience with ML data-pipeline tooling such as Hadoop or Spark.
  • Proven ability to lead ambiguous ML initiatives, set multi-quarter technical direction, and align senior stakeholders across modeling, data, and production systems.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, especially with product and data-science partners.
  • Seniority: Manager II; experienced engineering manager
  • Work mode: Remote within the USA, with in-office collaboration 1-2 times per quarter
  • Salary: $222,716 — $389,753 USD
  • Key skills: Machine learning, LLM and VLM models, Large-scale distributed training and inference, Hadoop, Spark, Content understanding, Recommendation systems, Technical leadership, Cross-functional communication, Team management
