Pinterest is hiring a remote Machine Learning Engineer!
Pinterest is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to build and improve the personalization systems behind its discovery platform, which serves roughly 500 million users and a vast corpus of saved ideas. The role sits within a comparatively small engineering organization, so the successful candidate can expect direct exposure to large-scale data and recommendation infrastructure rather than narrow, siloed work. The position is fully remote, and Pinterest notes that it does not offer relocation assistance for this opening. Compensation is posted publicly: a base range of $138,905 to $285,982 USD, plus eligibility for equity, with the final figure shaped by location, prior experience, and specialized skills. The team emphasizes rapid experimentation and frequent product launches.
Key responsibilities
- Apply current deep learning and machine learning techniques to personalize the Pinterest experience
- Collaborate with partner teams to experiment on and refine models supporting surfaces such as Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search
- Develop data-driven approaches that exploit the platform's unique signals to improve candidate retrieval
- Operate in a fast-moving setting where experiments translate quickly into shipped product features
- Stay current with research and industry practice in recommendation systems
Key requirements
- At least two years of industry experience applying ML methods such as user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, search, ranking, NLP, reinforcement learning, or graph representation learning
- Hands-on end-to-end experience building data processing pipelines, large-scale ML systems, and big data tooling such as Hadoop or Spark
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Nice to have: an M.S. or PhD in machine learning or a related area, publications at top ML conferences, fluency with AI coding assistants like Cursor, Copilot, or Codex, comfort using LLM-based tools for documentation search, experiment analysis, and SQL exploration, experience with scalable real-time streaming systems, and genuine enthusiasm for applied ML and the Pinterest product
